Dear Parent / Caregiver
A Magical Night – The Wizard of Oz
What an incredible journey down the yellow brick road! Our school musical, The Wizard of Oz, opens this week and I am sure that it will be a huge success and a special experience for everyone involved. A big thank you goes to our amazing staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring the production to life, and to our students who will shine so brightly on stage. It truly will be a weekend to remember, and we are so proud of what our school community has achieved together. Special thanks to Matt Sampson and the team at Baringa Secondary College for the use of their facilities and to our tireless P&C for their support in the coordination of the event – much appreciated.
Parent / Teacher Interviews – Thank You
I would like to sincerely thank all the parents and carers who joined us for Parent / Teacher interviews last week. With over 700 bookings, it was wonderful to see so many families sitting down with teachers to celebrate progress and talk about the exciting learning still to come. Your ongoing support and interest in your child’s education makes such a difference, and it’s inspiring to see our community working hand in hand to give our students the best start possible in their primary years.
Father’s Day BBQ – A Special Afternoon
What a fantastic afternoon we had celebrating Father’s Day at Baringa last Wednesday! It was exciting to see so many dads, grandads and father figures join us at school to enjoy time with the children. A very big thank you to the Baringa Mitre 10 team for cooking up a storm on the BBQ and for their amazing generosity in donating a brand-new four-burner BBQ as our first prize. We’d also like to thank Wayne and the team at Holey Moley Maroochydore for providing the entertainment – it made the afternoon even more memorable. Events like this remind us how lucky we are to have such a supportive and connected community.
Best Wishes to Year 5 Campers
Next week our Year 5 students and their teachers will be heading off on Camp Maranatha – what an adventure awaits! Camps are such a great opportunity to try new things, make new friends, and create memories that will last forever. We wish them all the best for a safe, fun-filled week and can’t wait to hear their stories when they return.
Farewell and Thanks to Chappy Sarah
This week we say a very warm thank you and farewell to Chappy Sarah, who has been such a caring and supportive presence at Baringa SPS over the past year. Sarah’s kindness and dedication to our students and families has touched many lives, and she will be missed. While we are sad to see her go, we wish Sarah every success in the next chapter of her journey. As a school, we are already looking at how we can continue to provide strong support for student and family wellbeing moving forward. At this stage there will be no backfill for Sarah until we have clarity over what options are available to the school in terms of a replacement position.
As we head into the final weeks of Term 3, I want to take a moment to thank our wonderful students, staff, and families for the energy, care, and commitment you bring to Baringa each and every day. It has been a busy but rewarding term, and the sense of community and pride across our school is something truly special.
Our Class Formation Policy
Our aim is to create well balanced, focused learning groups (classes) that will maximise children’s learning. We consider current and past teacher observations, specialist teacher information, parent input and student needs and strengths.
Please NOTE: This invitation does NOT extend to the nomination of a specific teacher for your child in 2026.
It is important to note that the final staffing for the year is not made until day 8 of the new school year, and if additional numbers of children arrive, classes will need to be changed at the end of the second week of Term 1 2026.
Parents are invited to obtain a Parent Request Form from the school office or class teacher to provide information of a significant nature, that the School may not be aware of and may have relevance for class formation in 2026.
All Parent Request Forms are due by Wednesday 12th November 2025.
A reminder that school holidays begin on Friday, September 19, with students returning on Tuesday, October 7. We wish all of our families a safe, happy, and restful break – filled with time together and plenty of fun. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for a fantastic Term 4!
Sarah Mewah
Head of Department & Prep
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we conclude another busy and rewarding term, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our families for your ongoing support and partnership. It has been a wonderful term filled with meaningful learning, joyful experiences, and strong connections across our school community.
This week, our Prep students celebrated their Level 1 Rewards Day – a student-led initiative that truly reflected their creativity and collaboration. The children chose to set up their own ice-cream parlours, enjoy time on the playground, and relax with a movie. This celebration was not only a well-earned reward but also a rich learning experience. Students later reflected on the day as part of their English Speaking and Listening Task, retelling the experience with enthusiasm and confidence – a perfect example of authentic learning in action.

Student Engagement – Looking Ahead to Term 4
We are pleased to announce that our popular school-based skateboarding program, delivered by Chiggy’s Skateboarding, will return in Term 4 for students in Years 3 and 4. The program will run for five weeks, beginning in Week 5, and will take place during school hours each Friday. Interest has already been high, and places are limited. If you would like your child to participate, please email smewh3@eq.edu.au to register your interest by 19th September.
Tadpoles Playgroup – Term 4
Our Tadpoles Playgroup will recommence on Friday 17th October. This program is an excellent opportunity for pre-prep children to begin their transition to school in a supportive and engaging environment. Led by one of our experienced Prep teachers, Playgroup begins with free play on the playground at 9:00am, followed by story time and hands-on activities in one of our purpose-built Prep classrooms from 9:30am. We warmly invite all families with pre-prep aged children to attend.
2026 Prep Enrolments – Now Open
Enrolments for our 2026 Prep cohort are now open. If you have a child starting Prep in 2026, or know a family who does, we encourage you to enrol as soon as possible. Our Prep classes are filling quickly, and we have only two remaining play-based enrolment sessions available:
Thursday 16th October
Thursday 13th November
These sessions provide a valuable opportunity for children to explore our learning spaces and for families to connect with our staff. Please contact the school office to secure your place.

Thank you once again for a fantastic term. I wish all families a safe and restful holiday break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term of learning and growth.

Thank You – Parent Teacher Interviews
We would like to extend a warm thank you to all parents and carers who attended our Parent Teacher Interviews on Monday, 1st September. These meetings are such an important part of building strong partnerships between home and school.
It was wonderful to see so many families take the time to meet with teachers, discuss student progress, and celebrate achievements. Your support and involvement play a vital role in your child’s learning journey, and we greatly value the opportunity to work together to ensure the best outcomes for every student.
Thank you again for your ongoing commitment to your child’s education.
Book Week Parade – Thursday 21 August
On Thursday, 21st August, our school came alive with colour, imagination, and creativity as students proudly took part in our much-loved Book Week Parade. This year’s theme inspired an incredible range of costumes, with children dressing up as their favourite book characters – from classic storybook heroes to modern-day favourites.
The effort put into the costumes was nothing short of spectacular. It was wonderful to see the pride on students’ faces as they paraded in front of their peers, teachers and families. From wizards and witches to adventurers, animals, and superheroes, the parade truly celebrated the joy of reading and storytelling.
Thank you to all families who supported their children in preparing for the day. Events like this highlight the strong sense of community we share and remind us of the magic books bring into our lives.
The Book Week Parade was a great success and an absolute highlight of the term. We are already looking forward to next year’s celebration of reading!

Ride Smart, Stay Safe: Bike Safety Tips for Students
Riding your bike to school or around the neighbourhood is a fun way to stay active, help the environment, and enjoy the outdoors. But just like crossing the street or playing sports, it’s important to stay safe while cycling. Here are some easy tips to help you ride safely and confidently!
Gear Up Before You Go
Before you start pedalling, make sure you’re ready:
- Wear a helmet every time you ride. It protects your head if you fall.
- Use lights and reflectors if you’re riding early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
- Wear bright clothes so drivers and other riders can see you easily.
- Check your bike—make sure the brakes work and the tyres are pumped up.
Follow the Rules of the Road
Even though bikes are smaller than cars, riders still need to follow road rules:
- Stop at stop signs and traffic lights
- Stick to the paths- we have so many amazing tracks to keep kids safe around the Baringa area
- Use hand signals to show when you’re turning
- Look both ways before crossing streets or driveways
Be Alert and Aware
Always pay attention to what’s around you:
- Watch out for cars, pedestrians, and other bikes
- Don’t wear headphones while riding—you need to hear what’s going on
- Be extra careful near driveways and intersections
Keep Your Bike in Good Shape
A safe bike is a well-maintained bike! Check:
- Brakes to make sure they stop you quickly
- Tyres for air and wear
- Chain to make sure it’s clean and not rusty
Riding with Friends or Family?
If you’re riding with younger siblings or friends:
- Stick together and ride in a line
- Make sure everyone knows the rules
- Help each other stay safe and have fun
Online Safety Tip: Set Time Limits
Keeping kids safe online is more important than ever. Here are some simple tips for parents to help protect children while they explore the digital world:
- Talk openly about internet use and set clear rules.
- Use parental controls on devices and apps to manage screen time and content.
- Keep devices in shared spaces so online activity is visible.
- Teach kids not to share personal information like their full name, address, or school. Educate them about the dangers of online friends.
- Encourage respectful online behaviour and report any bullying or suspicious activity.
- Set time limits for use.

Kids in Action Ready to Inspire!
Next week, our amazing Kids in Action Team will proudly present their learning journey to students from across the Sunshine Coast at the annual Kids in Action Workshops.
This inspiring event brings together young environmental leaders to share ideas, projects, and passion for making a difference—and our students are more than ready to shine!
If you're curious about what they’ve been working on, we invite you to explore our Bush Tucker Garden. It’s not only a beautiful space but also an interactive one. Bring your student’s iPad and scan the QR codes throughout the garden to discover videos, reflections, and information prepared by the team.
A big congratulations to our Kids in Action Team for their hard work, dedication, and leadership. We can’t wait to see them represent our school with pride!
Class Allocation Forms for 2026
From the beginning of Week 10, families can collect a Class Allocation Information Form from the school office. This form provides an opportunity for parents and caregivers to share any significant information that may be relevant to their child’s class placement in 2026.
If you are considering submitting a form, please refer to the Principal’s Report for important guidelines and further details.
Completed forms are due back to the office by Wednesday, 12th November 2025, to assist with the class formation process.
From Old to Sold – A Creative Way to Give Back!
As part of their ‘From Old to Sold’ project in Health, our Year 3 students recently put their creativity and sustainability skills to the test by designing and making dog toys from recycled materials.
Thank you to everyone who supported this fantastic initiative—we hope your furry friends are enjoying their new playthings!
We’re proud to share that the students raised an impressive $305, which will go directly towards supporting our Bush Tucker Garden. This project is a wonderful example of how small ideas can make a big impact.
Well done, Year 3!

Celebrating Indigenous Literacy Day
Some of our Year 2 and 3 classes recently celebrated Indigenous Literacy Day by hosting a special book swap in their classrooms.
Students donated books they had finished reading and picked new ones to enjoy at home—sparking excitement and a love for reading among their peers. A big thank you to the teachers for organizing this thoughtful initiative!
Books that weren’t taken home will be donated to Indigenous families in North Queensland, helping to support communities where access to books is limited.
It’s wonderful to see our students connecting through stories and supporting literacy for all.

Student Council – Containers for Change Competition
Our Student Council’s Containers for Change competition is well underway, and we have been thrilled to see so many classes getting involved. Every container collected makes a difference—not only in helping the environment but also in supporting our school initiatives.
The final tally will be taken at the end of this term, with winners to be announced early in Term 4. Keep those bottles and cans coming in - every contribution counts!
Year 5 Camp Update
Next week, our Year 5 students and teachers will head off to camp at Camp Maranatha in Yandina. Camp provides a rewarding experience for students, offering opportunities to build resilience, develop independence, and strengthen relationships with peers and staff.
Throughout the week, students will be encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and take on challenges they may not usually attempt. These experiences often lead to personal growth, greater confidence, and lasting memories.
We wish our campers all the very best for a safe, enjoyable, and enriching time away. They are expected to return on Wednesday afternoon. A tailored program will be provided at school for students not attending camp.
Year 5 School Camp: Medication Reminder
All students requiring medication on school camp must hand in correctly labelled and bagged medication to Mrs Deb Roberts on Monday 15 September 2025 before boarding the bus. On the morning of departure there will be a table set up outside the office to hand in any student medications.
The Department of Education Queensland recognises that all medications, including over-the-counter medications ie. Paracetamol or alternative medicines may be drugs or poisons and may cause side effects. As such schools require medical authorisation from a prescribing health practitioner ie. Doctor, dentist, optometrist (but not a pharmacist) before any medication can be administered to students, this includes those bought over-the-counter. A doctor’s name and dosage must be on the pharmaceutical label for school staff to administer any medication.
Please be advised that school held medications will NOT be taken to camp to ensure the continuity of school held medication on their return and the requirement for the school to have medication readily available whilst at school at all times. Therefore, parents will need to provide additional medication for their child whilst on school camp.
Asthmatics that require staff to hold and/or administer their Ventolin must supply an inhaler and/or spacer correctly labelled. Students’ school held asthma medication will NOT be taken to camp so please supply an additional one for the duration of camp. If your child self-administers their medication they can keep their puffer with them.
Students with Anaphylaxis must supply ONE EpiPen correctly labelled. Students’ school held EpiPens will NOT be taken to camp. Please ensure EpiPens are correctly labelled and in date.
If your child has an asthma or anaphylaxis plan at school, there is no need to complete the attached paperwork as the school held plans will suffice.
A Consent to Administer Medication form which collects important information for one (1) medication. Please complete Part B if your child is confident to self-administer their asthma puffer. Please note that all other medications including those purchased over the counter such as paracetamol cannot be self-medicated and will need to be stored in safe location whilst on camp.
In addition to completing the Consent to Administer Medication form, if your child requires ‘as needed’ medication (not emergency or routine medication; administered only if required) e.g. Panadol, antihistamine, a Medication Order to Administer As Needed Medication at School must be completed. Please find this form attached.
Please note that a separate form must be completed for each medication.
Surf Education
As part of our school’s Health and Physical Education Program, in Term 4 students in Years 5 and 6 will participate in a Junior Surf Life Saving Program. Surf Life Queensland, together with our school, will provide five 90-minute sessions, which will be held at Dicky Beach. The program largely focuses on “Surf Awareness”. Students develop knowledge reading surf conditions to identify the dangers at the beach. This is an essential skill to keeping themselves and others safe. The program will be facilitated by qualified lifesavers adhering to risk assessment. Teachers will also supervise students at the beach.
Friday's: October 24th & 31st November 7th, 14th, 21st
6A, 6B and 6D: 8.50am - 11.05am
5C, 5D, 6C and 6E: 10.20am - 1.00pm

Permission is due: Wednesday 15 October 2025.
Payment of $60 is due: Monday 20 October 2025.
PLEASE NOTIFY YOUR CLASSROOM TEACHER IF YOUR CHILD IS A NON-SWIMMER
Students will be required to wear their full school uniform to school. Students may wear their togs underneath their school uniform. Students may wear thongs to the beach as a substitute for shoes. Footwear is essential. Students will be required to pack a towel, togs, rash shirt, sunscreen, hat, water bottle and a bag to keep wet items in. Please be advised that sun safe togs including a rash shirt is mandatory. When students arrive back at school they can get changed back into their school uniform.
Lunchbreaks will be provided to students at different times throughout the school day if required.
Unleashing Personal Performance (UPP) – Year 5 Incursion
Unleashing Personal Performance (UPP), together with our school, is presenting a specialised leadership course for students in Year 5. The program is engaging and interactive; and is designed to unite our Year 5 students to have a positive and lasting impact on our school community for the 2026 school year. This program runs over a full day and is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22.
The program will focus on the following points:
• LEADING WITH OR WITHOUT THE BADGE - through example, influence and kindness.
• THE EPIC RACE - outdoor, fast-paced team event (using our A.S.P.I.R.E. framework).
• KNOWING ME, GROWING ME - understanding my strengths and those of others.
Baringa State Primary School’s P&C has generously donated the funds to cover the cost for all Year 5 students to attend this incursion. Thank you to our P&C for supporting this event.

2026 Student Leadership Process
The 2026 Student Leadership Process will be launched early next term. Students will be provided all the required information about Student Council positions, School Captain positions and Sports, Arts, Dance, Strings, Band, Choir, STEM and cultural Captains. Year 5 students will have opportunities to ask questions and clarify roles and responsibilities.

Only students in the Student Council are eligible to then apply for the positions of School Captain or Vice School Captain.
