The first three weeks back at school have been very busy but highly productive for both the staff and student body.
Week 2 saw our Arts Transition Program with Baringa Secondary College take place which involved a significant number of Year 5 and 6 students from the school join students from Nirimba Primary and Baringa Secondary college in participating in a range of art and cultural experiences at the college including dance, band, choir, drama and visual arts. Feedback from those students who attended was really positive with the final culminating evening a wonderful showcase of talent. My thanks to Mr Matt Sampson, Mr Scott Gaske and Mrs Fiona Harris for their support, time and effort in the implementation of the program again this year. A great experience for all involved.
School Opinion Survey
The annual School Opinion Survey will be conducted 28 July to 22 August 2025. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5,6) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve. An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line - School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2025.
Please check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone. Keep an eye out for yours! Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. Please contact the office to arrange.

From my perspective it is great to see so many of our students reach their academic potential in the core subjects of English and Mathematics. My thanks to the teaching team for their support and effort here to achieve these gaols for our kids.
Custody or Family Court Matters
Family law related disputes should not happen at schools as they disrupt the good order and management of the school. Schools are meant to promote a safe, secure learning and teaching environment for students and staff. They are not the place to resolve matters that can more properly be resolved privately or in the Family Court External link.
It is not the role of the school to resolve disputes between parents, for example, disputes about the arrangements for the collection of children from school premises, or the contact or time a child has with a parent.
Parents who may be involved in complex family matters are asked to try and resolve their differences through a family relationship centre External link, a family law service External link, a family dispute resolution service External link or the Family court External link.
Bike, Scooter and Pedestrian safety
A reminder to everyone of the importance of discussing with your child the road rules if using a bike or scooter when travelling to school and of the necessity of wearing a helmet when riding a bike or scooter to school. Wearing a helmet significantly reduces the risk of head injuries and ensures our students' well-being. Please make sure that you speak with your child about this and road safety as a matter of importance.
Complaints Management
During the course of your children’s school years, you may have cause to make a complaint about an issue with your child’s education. At Baringa we are committed to ensuring that all complaints are dealt with in a fair and equitable manner. There are processes and support structures in place to enable parents/carers and students to work through any issues they may have with Education Queensland provisions.
When making a complaint, it is in the best interest of complaint resolution to ensure that you:
- provide complete and factual information
- deliver your complaint in writing in a non-threatening and non-abusive manner and
- do not make frivolous or vexatious complaints or include deliberately false or misleading information.
The following procedure may assist parents/carers, and school staff to reach an outcome that is in the best interests of the student:
- Discuss your complaint with the class teacher
- Make an appointment to discuss your complaint with the Principal/Deputy Principal or ask the Principal/Deputy Principal to assist by participating in informal conflict resolution.
With matters that occur outside of school which may affect families or students’ parents are asked to communicate their concern to the school for possible resolution. Parents should not be approaching students other than their own children to reprimand them or their behaviour.
Please let us know if we can help here.
Interschool Sport
Best of luck to our Year 6 students who commence Interschool Sport next Friday August 8. I am sure that the kids will have a great day out and represent the school with pride.
Just a reminder - Proposed Industrial Action
Please be advised that members of the Queensland Teachers’ Union (QTU) at Baringa State Primary School have notified the Department of Education of their intention to participate in a 24-hour stop work action on Wednesday, 6 August 2025.
As a result of this decision a majority of teachers have indicated that they will not be attending school on Wednesday, 6 August 2025 due to taking part in the statewide strike related to ongoing Teachers’ enterprise bargaining negotiations between the Department and the QTU.
The safety and wellbeing of students remain our highest priority, as does ensuring that appropriate supervision is provided to students attending school during the industrial action.
I want to reassure you that while there will be a reduced number of school staff onsite during this day of industrial action, arrangements have been made to ensure students who attend are supported. Please be assured that the school will remain open during this time, though it is highly likely that your child will not be supervised by their regular classroom teacher.
To support the school in preparing for next Wednesday’s industrial action I would ask each family to click on the link below or click on the QR code at the bottom of the page, follow the prompts and complete the survey on attendance as soon as possible.
This survey information will be used to record student absences for Wednesday 6 August.
https://forms.office.com/r/EHXRyqLfYi
More communication will come out early next week to confirm the location to drop your child Wednesday, 6 August if they are attending school.
I understand the inconvenience this may cause families and appreciate your support and consideration as we work through this matter.

Dear Families,
Prep Learning Update
This term in English, our Prep students have been engaging with imaginative and informative texts to help them learn how to retell personal everyday experiences. One of the highlights has been reading We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury. Students loved the rhythm and repetition of the story and made personal connections by retelling their own experiences of going on a nature walks.
This week, we’ve explored Magic Beach by Alison Lester, which encouraged students to think about their own beach memories and experiences. They were able to make meaningful text-to-self connections, which supports comprehension and creativity.
In Mathematics, our learners are developing number knowledge by ordering numbers to 20 and exploring addition and subtraction through hands-on activities. We’ve also been representing practical situations involving sharing and grouping, collecting and sorting data, and investigating measurement concepts such as length, mass, and capacity.
Prep Vision Screening
The Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program will be providing free vision screening for all Prep students at Baringa State Primary School.
- Screening dates: Monday, 18th – Wednesday, 20th August 2025

Yr. 1 Fire Safety Visit Sparks Excitement and Learning
In the last week of Term Two, students in Yr. 1 had a valuable opportunity to learn about fire safety during a special visit from the local fire brigade. As part of the session, students were taught important safety protocols, including how to create a safety plan in the event of a house fire.
One of the highlights of the visit was the chance to explore a real fire truck. Students walked around the truck, examining the buttons, tools and equipment used by firefighters during emergencies. There was plenty of excitement as each student got a turn to use the fire hose under the guidance of the firefighters.
The visit also included a Q&A session, where students had the chance to ask thoughtful questions and deepen their understanding of fire safety and the vital role firefighters play in our community.
It was an engaging and educational experience that left students better equipped and more aware of how to respond in an emergency. Thanks to the fantastic members of the Fire Department for their time!

Yr. 1 & 2 A Fantastic Finish: Level 1 Reward Day Celebration
What a fantastic Level 1 Reward Day we had on Wednesday in the final week of school! To celebrate students outstanding behaviour and effort this term, all students on Level 1 were treated to a special movie morning featuring The Secret Life of Pets.
To make the experience even more memorable, students arrived in style—walking down a red carpet just like at a real movie premiere! Excitement was high as students settled in to enjoy the fun-filled film with their friends.
It was a well-deserved reward for a great term, and a wonderful way to wrap up the school term.

Year 1 Parent Celebration Afternoon
On Tuesday of Week 10, our Year 1 classrooms were filled with excitement and pride as students welcomed their families for a special Parent Celebration Afternoon. The focus of the event was to showcase the students' incredible writing about sea creatures, developed through their learning this term.
From fierce sharks to graceful seahorses, students confidently shared their detailed knowledge and beautifully written pieces. Each classroom was buzzing with enthusiasm as parents read and listened to the children’s work, which reflected creativity, effort, and a strong understanding of marine life.
The quality of the writing was truly outstanding, and it was wonderful to see students taking such pride in their achievements. Congratulations to all our talented Year 1 writers!

Year 2 Parent Celebration Afternoon
On Thursday of Week 10, Year 2 students proudly welcomed their parents into their classrooms for a special celebration of learning. The afternoon was a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge and understanding of this term’s Science unit, which focused on space — particularly the Earth, Moon and Sun.
Classrooms were transformed into mini space exhibits, with students enthusiastically sharing facts, models, diagrams, and written work about our solar system. From explaining the phases of the Moon to describing how the Earth rotates and revolves around the Sun, students impressed parents with their detailed explanations and enthusiasm for learning.
The afternoon was a fantastic way to celebrate all that has been achieved this term. Well done to all our curious and knowledgeable Year 2 students!

School Pick Up / Drop Off Zone
The safety of our students, staff and community members is paramount. We would like to remind all members of our school community to adhere to the road rules and parking signage, particularly during drop off and pick up times.
• Reminder that drop off time is from 8:15am, and pick up time is 2.45pm – 3.00pm. Helping Hands can assist any parents that require supervision outside these times.
A Message from our Guidance Officer
A recent Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey (QEW Survey) completed with our Years 2 to 6 students revealed only 40% of students indicating that they rarely or sometimes get enough sleep. Additionally, over 60% of students surveyed indicated that they use an electronic device before they go to sleep.
A Good Night’s Sleep is vital for children’s success at school.
Children who sleep well are:
• More focused and ready to learn
• Better at regulating their emotions
• More likely to enjoy school and succeed socially
• Less likely to feel anxious or overwhelmed
What’s needed?
-Lights out at 8pm, or earlier for younger students
-Primary school children need 9-11 hours sleep per night
-Leave electronic devises outside the bedroom at bedtime
-Start a new health sleep habit today
Parents and carers — consistent routines at home help set your child up for success at school. Let’s work together to give them the best start to every day!
Discovery Centre News
Book Week is a celebration of children’s literature and plays an important role in bringing children and Australian books together. Every year, the Children’s Book Council of Australia make a shortlist of fantastic new books by Australian authors and illustrators, published in the previous year. Books are judged and winners and honour books are announced during Book Week. All of the shortlisted books are available from the Discovery Centre.
The theme this year is ‘Book an Adventure’, so opens up lots of possibilities for costumes for the Book Week Dress-up Parade. We love to see all children involved in the Dress-up Parade. Children can come dressed as their favourite book character, movie character or as part of the theme.
Book Week is being celebrated in our school from Monday 18 to Friday 22 August with the Dress Up Parade being held on Thursday 21 August.

Caring for Our Books
We have so many beautiful new books in our Discovery Centre for our students to borrow! All students in Prep to year 6 will need to bring a library bag for borrowing. If your child has lost their bag, please organise another bag for them so that they can borrow regularly. School library bags are available for purchase from the School Locker.
Please encourage your children to care for our resources.
Here are some ideas to help you out:
- Always store your books in a Library bag or reading folder (Plastic bags are really handy and free)
- Turn the pages of your book from the top or bottom corner.
- Protect your books from the sun and rain.
- Always remember to use a bookmark. No dog ears please!
- We must have clean hands when using books.
- Remember not to eat or drink while reading books.
- Please don’t attempt to repair books yourself. Books don’t like sticky tape! Send them to the Discovery Centre to be repaired properly.
- Store books in a safe place at home.
Happy Reading!
Kylie Everett
Head of the Discovery Centre
Year 6 students have started learning to play the humarimbas- giant xylophones, suspended between two people. They are having great fun while making awesome music!

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
Collaboration with Stakeholders - submitting requests and documentation
Collaboration with Stakeholders
At Baringa State Primary School, we value strong partnerships with students, families, and the broader community. These collaborative relationships are essential to supporting the learning, wellbeing, and success of every student.
Submitting Requests and Documentation
Parents and carers are asked to email all requests for:
- Specialist questionnaires
- Letters of observation
- Diagnostic or medical documentation
- Requests for NDIS therapy access at school
to our Support Services team at: SupportServices@baringass.eq.edu.au
Please be advised that there is a turnaround time of 2 to 4 term weeks for all requests that require teacher completion of student questionnaires or observational reports for specialists or paediatricians. This ensures our team can provide thorough, considered responses while maintaining classroom teaching responsibilities.
Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership.
We are seeing so many new little faces at the tuckshop, which is awesome! There have been a few parents not sure about the snack money and how it works so I wanted to provide this information again.
Snack money is great for those who are extra hungry, if they have forgotten their lunch or would just like something a little more that day. Snack money allows them to be able to buy something over the counter.
Snack money is set up under the student profile and even though you are not standing there with your student at the time of purchase you are still in control as you can set a daily or weekly limit which they can spend. You can select particular days if desired (needed for daily limits) and even go through the menu and select items you don’t want them to buy.
There are still many profiles that are not complete with a current student photo, so please have a look at the examples below and double check that your profile photo is valid.

If you are still not 100% sure on how to set it up, please send me an email, give us a call or pop in and the team at Baringa Bytes will walk you through it.

OSHC News
We are excited to share the wonderful developments happening in the OSHC space. The newly renovated entrance has sparked many positive comments, reflecting the vibrant energy of our community. We are thrilled to collaborate with our educator Michelle a First Nations Kabi Kabi artist who is working with our staff and students to design a mural with our students, showcasing our shared values. develop our own acknowledgment of Country alongside the children and staff, all while embodying our newly developed service philosophy.
We are also planning on developing after school care club, embracing excursions and walks in our local pathways, celebrating bush tucker and wildlife, and deepening our connection to the story of our school totem animal, the frog.
Our team has been inspired by the musical rehearsals and eagerly anticipates the Wizard of Oz musical later this year that we are proud to have sponsored.
Additionally, we are proud to announce our approval for inclusion support funding for vacation care, and we look forward to securing funding for both before and after-school care, ensuring every child in our care feels supported and valued.
Our students are having a blast sharing their cultural backgrounds through fun conversations! They've been excited to create flags that represent their families and origins, which has sparked a neat idea—they want to teach their friends greetings in their native languages. It’s heartwarming to see the joy and confidence as they talk about their family traditions and the celebrations they enjoy throughout the year. This has led to some amazing artwork and enjoyable story time!
We’re excited to keep building our relationships with the children in our care and their carers! Our holiday program prvided a fantastic opportunity to spend even more time together, enjoying fun activities with all the students that inlcuded two excursions one to the zoo and the other to watch a movie. I was really impressed with how well behaved they were and the meaningful conversaions we were able to have with them.
Lastly we have had some feedback from our families that the entry gate to the oshc is lacking in safety measures to ensure a children are unable to exit the area without a parent present during operational hours. I would like to mention that I have had discussions with the school and helping hands to have additional signage on both sides of the gate and a new spring mechanism has been relaced to ensure the gate springs back automatically to close back over after opening. We also have a staff at the main entrance to ensure children are not leaving the room with out being signed out by an authorised pickup person.
New Feature - QPARENTS Announcements!
Qparents users will have noticed a new 'announcements' feature this week. Announcements enables the school to send quick messages to families via QParents.
We will be utilising this feature for incursions, excursions and camps consent and paymnent reminders. Announcements can be accessed by clicking on your students profile in Qparents and the announcements tab.
To keep up to date easily make sure you have QParents!
